My City: Then and Now


A while ago I showed you a photo of Little Rock in 1905, a view from across the river. This is that same view, in 2012. Shall we compare?




I want to focus on one particular area of the photo:


You see here a cluster of skyscrapers mostly built between 1960 and 1980 or so, plus one or two historic buildings. Here's the same group of buildings in 1905:


A bit different. All of the buildings along the river are gone. The Fones Bros. warehouse at the left is also gone - it moved east along the river and was later repurposed into the main branch of the Central Arkansas Library System. The only thing that's left, pretty much, is the Capital Hotel. Actually, here. Let's just put 'em all together.


How the times have changed.

Crazy how much it has changed over time! I like the old bridge better, more beautiful.
